Vol.6 - Automotive Wire Standard - JIS Cable Standard

2020-9-9 14:26:31

Automotive wire is for current and signal transmission between all the appliance in the automobile. Usually we require the automotive wire to be low&high temperature resistance, so the material of the wire should be superior.

Automotive wire is composed of a number of small multi-core flexible copper wire wrapped in the PVC. It can be divided to 2 types - high voltage and low voltage. And the conductor cross-sectional area decides the operating voltage and current. For example, the stater only works in a short time, for ensuring to provide it with sufficient power, it requires in the wiring system the voltage of the wire can not exceed 0.1V-0.15V per 100A current. It result in its wire cross-sectional area is big. On the contrary, the high voltage automotive wires usually carry more than 15kV current, so its cross-sectional area is small, which is about just 1.5mm². Besides, the insulation layer is thicker than that of low voltage wire, also made by the rubber instead and covered by painted cotton.

Some of common wire models as follow:

China GB cable Standard: QVR-105

Japan JIS cable standard: AV, AVS, AVSS, AVX/AEX

Germany DIN cable standard: FLRY-B, FLRY-A, FLRYK-A, FLRYK-B, FLRYW-A, FLRYW-B

America ANSI cable standard: GTE, GPT, GXL, SXL, TWE, TWP, TXL.

Here we will introduce the JIS cable first, the AVS cable is also the commonly used wire in our company to make the wire harness.

JIS cable standard for automotive wire

1) National standard :

JIS C3406 for automotive thin-wall low-voltage wire: AV, HEB

2) Automotive engineering society standard:

JASO D611 for automotive thin-layer low-voltage wire: AVS, AVSS, CAVS etc.

JASO D608 for automotive heat-resistance low-voltage wire: AVX, AEX etc.
